It was probably not the smartest thing she'd ever done, Artemis had to concede, bumping along with Millie's rapid trot. But she'd really wanted to prove she could take the not-technically-saddlebroken draft through the desolate, high-altitude landscape just as well as they could take their temple horses, native to the area. It wasn't as though Millie was in any way unrideable. She would have taken Emmie, but much as she loved her shy kaimanawa, they had a ways to go with their training, and taking a skittish, wild-caught, half-trained horse to traverse a this far-stretching landscape was, well... She wasn't that stupid, headstrong, or impulsive.

Besides, Millie was doing fine. The dark mare trotted along at a pace and gait that made it easy to believe another section of her breed consisted of draft harness racers, not comfortable but gobbling up ground at a decent clip, and had shown no sign of being bothered by the jackalope's presence on her back. All Artemis had to remember was to use her voice instead of her legs to urge the mare along, and make sure the horse didn't overexert herself.

Piece of cake.
